After not seeing Jim for three days it was nice to see him again.
Jim is doing some better. He can just lift his head off the pillow while laying on about a 35 degree angle. His hand and wrists are some stronger. He can move slightly his for arm. He can pull it up about 4 inches and push it away about 8 inches. Feet and legs appear to be about the same.
The PT girls Jenny and Amanda were talking at dinner and they are amazed how the Guillain Barre syndrome recovery is moving as expected but when it started it did not follow the normal symptoms. Recovery will be pretty much top down. Head, neck, hands, wrist arms, etc with feet being last if recovery continues on its normal patch.
Jim’s well chair they brought him a couple days ago is a special chair. Not only is it motorized but the set is adjustable so it can almost lay back flat. Jim was put in the chair with a special lift. He was tilted back and laid there for 1 ½ hours. His hands and wrist are not strong enough yet to use the joy stick on the chair to go anywhere. They do this so he can get used to being upright a little by little each day.
Jim’s Blood count is in the low 11’s. Seems to be getting better each day. He received another shot of the Procrit. It has reacted the same as it did last week. It is giving him some pain in parts of his body. Last week it was back and he still has some of that. This week it is in his legs. He is asking for a lot of pain meds because of it.
All in all recovery remains slow and probably will continue that way.
The Nurses are wonderful. The PT’s are excited for Jim. Thanks to Jenny’s good friend Amanda who works there and is one of the PT’s They are working lots with them. The doctors are encouraged with his progress. But nothing beats the smile we got last night. Jim’s dad Mike came in the waiting room after seeing Jim for the first time since Sunday morning. He came in so excited and smile as big as I have seen from him. He was walking on a cloud last night.
Mike, Mookie, and Charlie are here again for the weekend from Tenn. 8 hour drive each way. We thank God they are having save travel and good weather.
It can not be said enough, Thank you all for the prayers and support for Jim and Jenny. No words can express how much it is helping.
John
